MF 362 charging problem

The alternator on my MF 362 quit charging (it has only a red light, and not a gauge), so had the alternator rebuilt. Still didn"t work, as red light wouldn"t go out. Bought a new alternator from the dealer. Still doesn"t charge, except that now when the engine speed is almost at full throttle, the red light dims, but doesn't go out. Any ideas?

You should measure the battery voltage at the battery terminals. If it's a 12 volt alternator
your charging voltage should be in the 14.0 to 14.5 volt range. Are you using a separate regulator or is this an internal regulator? Hal

It's an internal regulator on both the rebuild job and the new alternator. The voltage at the battery is about 12.6 volts, and when I run the engine up to about 1800 rpm it slows climbs to about 13.2 volts. It may be a defective alternator, but I am concerned that both the one I had rebuilt and the new one do exactly the same thing, and suspect that there is another problem causing this low voltage output.

How old is the battery? I would have it load tested. Hal
