About 20 years ago my father-in-law had his MF50 gas engine rebuilt. The govenor has never worked since. I had to pull the carb off last week to get the float unstuck so got the chance to look over the workings of the linkage. Can anyone give me a simplified describtion of how the govenor works. I am hoping for a missing spring or something that can be fixed without pulling the front cover.

I have a MH50 that I knew nothing about when I bought it last year. Throtle wouldn't stay where I positioned it util I installed a missing governer compensating spring.
