with the help of this board I have gotten my 65 running. A new problem has arisen- she starts and idles fine but when driven she has no power. Evena small incline will keep her from moving. Yesterday I started her and she did not want to move at all- tried hi and low all gears. Its a continental gas.does this sound like clutch? What else could cause this? Any help would be great.
Thanks
Tom

If the engine will maintain it's RPMS but the ground speed slows or stops it is your your main clutch disc slipping.

OK guys I think it must be the clutch. I will pull it apart this weekend when I get home.
Thanks to all for your input

Yep.
The pressure plate would allow you to put it in gear. When you take your foot off the clutch, the clutch should "grab" and allow you to go forward/backward. (Assuming the clutch was good.)
I dunno. By what you"re describing, my VERY unprofessional opinion would be the clutch.
And if it is, while you"re in there, you should also replace the pressure plate and throw out bearing and also take a real good look at the bearing that goes in the flywheel. Also, check for cracks on the flywheel and if there are any, it"s just a few dollars more to have the flywheel turned. Let"s face it: Since you have it split, do what it takes to make it all right.

HTH,
Chuck

Hello Tom.

If you remove the left inspection cover under the seat, where the PTO lever sits, you can feel if the shearsleeve is broken or gone off the spllines.
Have the engined stopped... !!!! No fingers in there with the engine running.

The sleeve can be felt, and is supposed to have a split pin though it to keep it in position. This sleeve connects the axle shaft from the transmission with the pinion in the differential. If something happens, very hard and sudden load it is supposed to break. But, in some cases the split pin wears and can break, and the sleeve move forward and off the pinion spline and the tractor will not move. Then you have to re-fit the sleeve and fit a new split pin. But be aware, now you have 2 split pins inside your tractor, and it is supposed to be only 1 there. The broken one is most likely down in the pump or bottom of the transmission housing. So, you have to dig for it. A small magnet is not a bad tool for that. But your fingers might work too. This is what I think you shall look for first.

The sleeve is about 2+ inch wide and maybe 8 inch long, something in that neighborhood.

Bill

Is this a "Dieselmatic"? If so, I don"t have a clue. If a regular gear driven AND it won"t move at all, it could be a gizmo in the rear end that breaks before something important/expensive breaks. At least it happened many years ago on my Dad"s 50, forgot what it"s called:-( I "think" you pull the left pto panel and replace with new piece and your on your way. Have you checked the clutch pedal adjustment? Does the PTO engage and diengage normally? Have you checked Big Deans website?
