I recently purchased an MF 135 with very poor brakes. I have not made any attempt at adjustment yet as there was one thing i was unsure about. The brake pedals do not tend to spring back up after depressing them. Will this be weak return springs on the shoes or is there a spring somewhere else that should return the pedal. I don;t want to adjust the shoes incase they are staying on until I find out why the pedal does not return.
Thanks

Figure 251 of the I&T MF-27 manual shows another spring on the brake camshaft that may help with pedal support. Steve IA

Hello again,
Seems like you have several problems here.
Inability of the pedals to return can be down to tightness in the bushes at the end of the brake shafts or rust where the point adjusters make contact with the back side of the shoes. Once you have pedal 'pressure' but think that the efficiency is not as good as it might be, please come back and I'll tell you how to fix it so that the tractor will stop on a sixpence or dime depending on where you live. You will not find this in any manual.
Regards
DavidP

Thanks David. As I don't have time to srip down right now, i adjusted the shoes as i have seen you advise in a previous posting. The adjuster star required about 30 notches to tighten which i assume is a lot. The brake rods were adjusted ok. I now have good brakes and the pedal sits much higher than it did. it still lacks a little spring/return in the pedal but i am going to run it for a while to see if it improves as the tractor had been doing very little work before i got it.

Thanks again
