I have read all of the messages regarding the MF stuck in gear difficulty but I have not been able to unfree mine. It is stuck in second gear. When I open the gearbox hole I see the mechanism (looks like it slides forward and back on a rod) that is connected to the shift lever. It has a square bolt on it with a wire through it. I can also see a very large gear toward the front of the unit (I assume this is the flywheel?). In the center there is a bigger gear with a flange separating it from a smaller gear in the back of the flange. That is all I can see aside from some smaller gears on the bottom of the case. I don't know what others are referring to when they say "forks", I can't see anything resembling forks.

I think I have tried everything posted here and nothing has worked. Nothing budges in there, I have the tractor in nuetral and have tried it with the clutch in and out. I have tried moving the gears and the mechanism on top forward, back and sideways and all other ways. If anyone has any additional information I would surely appreciate it here in Wisconsin.

Thanks,

Mark

Forget it folks. I fixed it. I have a MF65 that I opened up and compared. I had been trying to move every gear in there except the one that needed to be moved. It is the front big one that I though was stationary. Moved it back and poof. Now if I can just remember it for next time....

Hello Mark,
Glad you got it sorted, however you should not really push on the gears just in case you damage the teeth or selector forks. If you have looked at your 65 you will have seen the three selectors that have to be in line to be in neutral. This is where you should apply the pressure. Even with the clutch down and in neutral as such you can still have lock-up in the transmission. It is always advisable to jack up one rear wheel and release any lock-up in it. Check the condition of the gearlever in neutral side to side and by trying to turn it. If the play seems excessive you will have wear in the gearlever and pin. You should consider replacing these as soon as possible as this will happen again. Pushing down slightly on the gearlever when changing gear will reduce the possibility of a repeat. A big screwdriver should work but you will find if you have a piece of half-inch round bar about 15 inches in length with one end curved similar to a shallow umbrella handle this will work better. Practise on the tractor while the gearbox is OK.
Cheers
