FNG here. Bought a MF 245 diesel with loader. Want to do a 50,000 mile maintenance on it. Cross referenced all the MF filters to Napa Gold (aptly named). Manual sez 8 plus gallons of hydraulic fluid and specifies MF hydraulic fluid ONLY. If I use a decent brand will it really make any difference? Also, can anybody recommend a really good source for MF parts and filters? Thanx, H.

My 135 works best on Perma-tran III and it's not much more than any other oil that says it meets the MF spec. I can't say the same thing about JD oil. The hydraulic oil for my JD crawler I had was twice the price and it's just for hydraulics. Dave

Hi, MF dealers around here sell MF branded "10W30 universal tractor oil" for use in the transmission and hydraulic. It's just 10W30 engine oil.

Hey,

For the little extra $$$$ get the Permatran. It will save you a ton hassles later on. Just remember , there is a reason it is cheaper.

It has to be a type of trans/hydraulic fluid, not just a regular hydraulic oil because it has to be both the rear end lube, and the hydraulic oil.

So no, not just any hydraulic oil will do. If it says it meets Massey specs, it should be ok, but I've heard it more than once where guys find the hydraulics seem to work better on genuine MF Perma-Tran III trans/hydraulic fluid.

Do you have any Massey dealer's around? It may be just as cheap (not to mention time saving) to have them ship you the parts, filters, oil etc. vs. the drive to get them if they're too far away.

I'll post a link to AGCO's (the parent company of Massey) dealer locator.

Any Cheap/Expensive hydraulic fluid should work if it says its compatable with MF. They always tell you to use their fluid because they just want to sell you their product. But some machinery does have to have some additives, Ive seen. (Like Case for instance) And on the filters I would find a WIX brand filter dealer. They usually carry filters for everything and are pretty cheap. For parts Id use YTMAG.com, Broke F.com, or local dealer if you like spend bucks.
