Help!! We have a MF50 with the Continential 4 cylinder (134 I believe) gas engine. This tractor has never not started. I used the tractor Sunday morning, it ran a little strange (died a couple times) but started rigtht back up. Came in about 1:00 and killed the engine for about 30 minutes. Came out and the carb. was dripping gas big time. Turned the fuel cock off and of course the leaking stopped. Waited about an hour and turned the fuel back on and it didn't leak. But the tractor turns over but will not fire. I check the points and they are fine. Today pulled the plug on the bottom of the carb. NO FUEL.. Checked the line and fuel runs out fine. So before I take the carb off. Any ideas what happened and can I fix it without taking the carb off? This thing has not been apart it its entire life. O'yes it has a front end loader which is in the wrong spot for easy working on the carb. Also it is possible to have leaked enough gas to have contaminated the oil? I appears to be thinner than I remember.

Although it sounds impossible, my brothers MF50 douses the oil with gasoline every time the needle valve sticks. It even loaded up the oil when one cylinder was missing due to a bad plug. Pull the dipstick and smell it. If you smell gas, change the oil.

I will not adress the no start problem due to the other posters already explaining it better than I could.

HTH

There is a screen in the fuel inlet elbow on the carb on most Marvel-Schebler carbs. Pull it and see if it"s clean. If it is clean, then your float is probably hung up. Get a piece of 2x4 and rap the side of the carb with the bottom plug open. When it frees up, you"ll know it. If that doen"t work, you"ll have to pull the carb.

I doubt you colud thin the oil in a half hour. how many hours since your last oil change?

If this tractor was mine, I would get the ignition working first. Check to see if you are getting power to the points, to do this turn the engine over until the points are open and then put a screwdriver blade
across the points wire and the side of the distributer. You should get a spark. If not, check the wire from the dist. to the switch, the switch, and the hot wire running to the switch. When you get it firing and if it still does not run right, clean the plugs. If you still have trouble, crank it and shut off the fuel until it stalls, turn on the fuel and start it again, this usually will flush out the trash from the needle and seat,if not you will have to clean out the carb.

Sounds like the float in the carb stuck. I'd pull the carb off and give it a good cleaning. You will probably have to get gaskets for it at least. I wouldn't worry to much about the oil, as long as it didn't go over the full mark on the stick. It's an updraft carb isn't it? The air cleaner pipe is lower(where the gas was running out) than the intake.
