Is a massey 44-6 a good pulling tractor? Is the massey 44-4 better for pulling than the 44-6? How much horsepower can you get out of a 44-6 for pulling? I have heard of people getting up to 150 hp out of farmall M's. I have a massey 44-6 chrysler that I would like to make for pulling. Is it worth my time and money? Should I find a different tractor? If so, what is the best tractor for pulling with that is in the same weight class as the 44-6. What weight class would the 44-6 be in? Sorry for all the questions. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

i have a 1947 44-6 that i pull sometimes and it does ok in the 4000lbs class it will hold it own and in the 4500 around middle of the class, although i have beaten some 44-4 in the 4500lbs class before but rarely ,it depends on the track and your tires , alot of other things too

44-6 stock was a Continental F226 - not Chrysler - though I've seen some odd things done to replace motors on 44-6 tractors. As they came from MH the 44-4 cyl was better for pulling - 260 ci vs 226 ci - unballasted weight of 44-4 Row Crop was 4165 pounds with 39.9 drawbar HP - depending on rules you may be able to strip down to under 4000 pound class.

My book shows 44-6 RC at 3600 pounds but I don't think thats right - I would guess they should be within a hundred pounds or so. Standards are heavier and therefor less desirable as pullers. All have a fairly high First gear about 2.5 MPH - which may be too high - especially if rules limit to 2 MPH(?) as I think some may. Rules frequently vary by area if you are pulling "stock" or "unmodified" you would want to check your area.

Around here the AC WC and WD45 are hard to beat in the 3500 and 4000 pound classes - though I'm sure others will have other good suggestions. If tractor is complete, intact, and running, I would guess it would be worth more than an Allis in similar shape as there weren't that many 44-6 made before 44-4 became dominant - but there were probably 10x as many Allises out there.

If you are interested I have a running MH44-4 RC in Il and several AC in La that I might be interested in trading depending on what you have and where you are.
