I have a MF 135 that some of you have been helping me on and I appreciate the help very much. I replaced all of the gauges because all of the original ones were broken and on my first try the meter gauge and the oil pres sure gauge are working for sure. The Tach is not working is there something special you are suppose to do on the Tractor end of the cable. I just put the loose end in the hole and tighted the base around it. Is there anything I'm suppose to be feeling when I stick it in the back of the engine. Is there suppose to be power hooked up?

The fuel gauge isn't working either. There is just one wire from the top of the fuel tank to the gauge, is that right?

The Temp gauge I'm not sure about? I only had the tractor on about 3 or so minutes maybe it didn't get hot enough. My only concern here is that I had to buy and adapter for where the probe goes into the engine because the gauge I bought had 1/2 npt instead of 1/4 npt that the tractor needed. Could the probe not be in far enough.

If it helps my tractor is a perkins 3 cyl diesel.

Sorry so long on the post but I need a lot of help. But you guys have to see my tractor it's looking awesome.

to warm up the engine in a hurry, block air flow thru radiator with sheet of plastic or big paper bag, force of fan will hold it in place

Possibly old stock, but I just recently bought a MF part # pressure switch from local dealer. No mention of obsolete part#. Aftermarket switch available through TISCO also.

Wesley:

You will need to operate your tractor much longer in order for the termperature guage to move from cold. The Perkins engines bypass a lot of coolant and do not warm quickly. You may need to work it before it shows much movement.

The fuel guage on the diesel equipped tractors is powered by a pressure switch in the line to the oil pressure switch to prevent the switch circuit from running the battery down when the engine is not running. Many of these switches have been broken during servicing and have been removed. Others are no longer serviceable for whatever reason. The switches are no longer available from MF. There should be 2 wires on your fuel gauge, one from the gauge to the sending unit and one from the gauge to the pressure switch.

More than one tach cable is used on the 35/135. Connect the engine end of the cable leaving the tach end unconnected. Start the engine and observe the tach end of the cable. It should turn. If it doesn't, you have the wrong cable or the slotted adapter in the back of the camshaft is missing or broken.

Many times, fuel gauge problems end up as the result of a bad ground.

Make certain the pressure switch (under the oil pres. gauge) is good. It powers, among other things, the fuel gauge.

Hi Wesley When you had the tach cable connected to the tach , did you spin it with your fingers to see if the tach needle moves? If it does then every thing to there is ok. As for the fuel gauge, when the tractor is running take the wire off the top of the fuel tank and touch it to the fuel tank itself, the gauge should read full (When touched). If this doesnt happen, your sender is faulty. Now the temp gauge. take the probe out and put it in a jar of hot water, or put a match to it. The gauge should go up almost immediately, even if the tractor is not running. Good luck Wayne

Check and make sure your gauges are getting power. Your Temp sensor may not be far enough in a water jacket. It takes some time for the Perkins to warm up so give a little more time. If you have power going to your fuel gauge and still no reading your sending unit may be bad. As for the tach make sure it is fitted in the sprocket opening. I think this sprocket driven from the back of the camshaft.
