MF 135 - Wrong Tach ?

My MF 135 Orchard came with no tach cable. I finally got around to getting one. When I installed it the tach did not run. I checked the new cable and found that when it was attached to the tractor, the gauge end of the cable turned CCW as does the engine as judged by the fan rotation. The Tach gauge must be turned CW in order to register. It doesn't look like a new tach but obviously this one doesn't belong with this tractor
third party image

Printed on the dial face:
STEWART WARNER 823398 MADE IN USA

Printed on the outside case of the gauge:
551ABA8**
525865 M1 The last looking like a MF part #.

Can anybody help me with this? Thanks
Steve

Steve, The p/n 525 865M1 is out of a 1500-1505-
1800-1805 series. This from my microfiche cards
from MF identifying p/n's. Where did someone get
that!!! Chuck

Don't know! But I'd swap somebody for a ccw tach.
Thanks
Steve

my 135 (Perkins) tach needle rotates right to left, got used to it and only notice it when my BIL drives the tractor and says something

yeah... I have a MF 135 and MF 165 and the tachs needles rotate in opposite directions. After a long day it still fools me sometimes when I switch tractors and I jump when I see the tach needle setting - thinking holy christ the RPMs are high!

525 865 M1 matches no part numbers in my MF-135 parts book.

The Perkins tach comes off the back end off the camshaft and because there's an idler gear between the crankshaft and the camshaft the camshaft turns the same direction as the crankshaft. The Continental gas engine drives the tachometer from a gear box on the back of the generator so the tach shaft turns the opposite direction of the crankshaft.

The two part numbers MF-135 used with the Perkins gas engine were: 528 403 M91 used after 9A146750 (incandescent lamp for illumination) and 194 615 M1 for earlier (electroluminescent illumination) which says buy the later tachometer and a light bulb kit (836 975 M91) for repairs.
