I've read several articles etc. that tell me that getting the cast iron wheel hubs off the axle (tapered shaft) on a MH20 standard can be quite a job and often difficult and at times impossible. I have to get the axles out so that I can work on the brakes etc. My question is this ..... can I (or should I) remove the axles (after removing the big hub nut) intact with the hubs attatched? That way I can get the hubs pressed off the tapered end of the axle at my friend's machine shop. Just thought it might be simpler since the whole thing has to come out anyways to do the work. Making home made hub pullers might be a lot of work if it could be done the way I think it might. Your comments are appreciated.

Hey Rookie Wrencher, unless you really have a need to remove the hubs, don't. I just went thru this process. The whole housing, axle, & hub will slide out as one unit. I put a 30 gallon barrel & some wood shims under the housing. Remove bolts & slide out onto drum just far enough to remove the brake assemblies. Remember to replace inside seal on tractor housing. Be prepared to pay lots of $$ to replace linings on discs. While you have everything apart, clean out grease weep hole at bottom on rear housing. It will go back together pretty easy with the line up pins on housing. Sam
