I have a 35X with ser. # 248683 Model SGM. This no. doesn't seem to match for 35's. Could someone please explain? Also what is the diff.between TO 35's and MF 35's? Were TO's built overseas. Thanks for your help.

Wasn't a 35X basically a pre production 135? Dave

Wm.

The TO-35 was first available in 1955. It was built in detroit. TO stands for "T"ractor "O"verseas. TE=Tractor England. As Ferguson was British the US is overseas.

In 1958 Massey ferguson ended the failed two-line policy and combined the Massy-Hassis and Fergusons into one Massey-Ferguson line of tractors. That done the TO-35 was maintained until 1961 when it was rebadged the MF-35. Thus other than color there is no difference in the TO-35's or MF-35's.

Now can you help me to understand what is a MF-35x. I have seen decals for this tractor but am not sure what the x-designation means.

If you are really into the Ferguson tractor line consider joining FENA. The Ferguson Furrows Newsletter has lots of good info on the TO35's. infact Paul is starting a special series on the -35 for the next couple of issues. -FYI

Jeff,
The X is for deluxe. The deluxe include several features that were optional on the standard 35. Don't hold me to it, but I believe the tractormeter, deluxe seat, differential lock, and dual clutch were standard on the 35x and optional on the 35. I stand to be corrected, but I don't think I'm too far off.

I have heard of the TO-35 special and delux of course, I just have never seen a decal on one that said TO-35x. Will keep an eye out.

My serial number plate shows that I have an FE35, and it is a deluxe, so don't know about any of the 35's manufactured in the states. By the way, somebody on this forum said mine couldn't be an "FE" and I don't remember why it was said, but it doesn't really matter, I'm not a collector, just use it for some blading, dirt moving, and brush hogging. Whether it is an FE or MF, it's sure a nice old tractor. You can see it on the photo section and search for fe35 or click the following link.

It is a 1964 Massey Ferguson, standard, gas engine, and dual clutch. See below. You can find the s/n on this site and I did a search on the "SGM" to get the total definition even though I did know what you had since I have a similar one. C. T.

First letter(chassis type):
S = Lo clearance (std)
R = Row crop twin front wheel
T = Row crop single front wheel
C = high clearance
U = Utility
Second letter(fuel type):
G = Gas
B = LP
H = High Altitude
N = Diesel
D = Direct Injection
Third Letter(Clutch type)
M = Dual - Reg. Transmission
F = Single
W = Multi-Power
