How do I shift into engine driven PTO on my MF165 without grinding the gears. I can't figure it out and don't have a manual. I usualy shut off the engine, shift it in, and restart the engine. I know this cant be good for it with a brush hog attatched!

My 165 has "live" pto. The pto clutch is disengaged when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.

The engagement point of the main and pto clutch is set by adusting the length of the linkage from the clutch pedal to the clutch operating shaft. The arm on the clutch operating shaft has two holes in it. The linkage should connect to the top hole to get enough travel to disengage the pto clutch.

Jeff, here is what works for me, assuming your clutch is pretty much in correct adjustment. First shift pto into ground speed and shift trans to a low gear, let the clutch out so that the tractor and pto starts moving, when the tractor is moving push the clutch in and then shift pto into engine pto fairly quickly, dont jerk it, just dont let the motion of the tractor stop or you will have to start all over. On my massey's this works real well and never grinds. Johnny
