My late model orchard 135 had the right brake that would lock up when the pedal was barely touched and would only release by backing the tractor. I've opened the brakes and everything looks pretty good. the balls are not new, but are not pitted or flatspotted, the springs do look new as do the brake discs. I suspect previous owner may have had trouble with this brake and renewed it all, but either didn't fix the problem, or caused the sticking. There was some brake dust in the bottom of the housing and apparently some small oil leak as some of the dust is mushy. I've ordered a new carrier plate seal. I can see no reason why the brakes would lock up. Would absolutely new balls help? There is no indication of wear on the actuator plate where the balls ride. The balls measure 1" and appear to fit exactly in the detents. Other than a good cleaning and new seal is there anything else I should do?
Thanks for your input.

Steve

Sounds like the same brakes on my 1600 Oliver. I would replace the springs and balls, they're really not expensive.

I've heard that if they are lubricated with anything it can cause sticking because the brake dust and everything else gets stuck in there. I put some graphite powder on mine when I redid the brakes and so far no problems.

Hi Steve have you backed off the adjuster? I converted my square axle(no loader/loaded tires or anythin to heavy except front weights) to wet brakes and have noticed they no not lock up so easily. I would like to do the same for my MF40 TLB

Yeah, it's backed off. And in pieces on the work bench. Thanks for the input.
