The 44 Diesel came out in 1948 in standard tread. Row Crop was introduced one year later. There was about 5 or 6 thousand standards made. I don't know the figure for row crops. Early models were originally equipped with a single plunger Bosch pump. These were later replaced with a multi plunger Bosch pump by the company. Engine serial numbers 5000 and up were equipped with the multi punger pump from the beginning. These tractors have the same basic engine as the gas model. The difference being the injector pump, a higher compression ratio and an altered head to house the injector nozzles and power cells. Hope this helps Terry. I don't know about the price. But, I would estimate about 10-15% higher than a gas model. My 44 Diesel cost only a few hundred dollars, but it is a basket case.
