I have just bought an older (SN 38347) Massey Ferguson 135 with 3-point and auxiliary hydraulics. The auxiliary system works only when the 3-point control lever and the draft control lever are in the fully back position and the small selector on control box on top of the transmission housing in a certain position. I want to be able to have the 3-point in use while use a 2-way cylinder as a top link. This way, I can tilt a large round hay bale or change pitch on an angle blade. How do I rig up so I have constant pressure available to the auxilary control valve regardless of what the 3-point is doing? Thanks, Jim

Hello Jim,
Gary and Gerald have missed the easy solution to your problem and I have to be honest I had not heard of it until I modified the system on little on my own 1965 MF 135 to use a small hay bale squeeze.
The modification that you need to make is simple.
It appears that you have everything in place already and I assume that you remote valve is OK for on double and one single acting cylinder.
Connect up the top link pipes as normal.
On the front right hand side of the hydraulic cover you will see a vertical and horizontal plug.
You may have a trailer tipping pipe fitted to the vertical one. Connect your line fron the single acting cylinder to this point. When the isolating valve is closed and your remote operated the cylinder INSIDE the tractor now becomes a REMOTE one. You can raise and lower the linkage on your remote lever. This has been very successful for four harvests allowing the lowering, opening, squeezing and lifting on the move with your hand operating both levers.
If you need any more help please come back.

Guys to just run a top link or other "smaller" hydraulic jobs you could use a power steering pump and an open center hydraulic valve 1000-1500 psi 3-4 gpm. This will work if you don't already have power steering. or...you can do like i did and install an auxillary hydraulic pump inside the tractor...Gary

You are doing as good as it gets using the internal pump. The lift and float handles are directly controlling the pump. If they aren't all the way up, the pump isn't pumping so it won't run external hydraulic loads either.

The auxiliary valve on my MF-135 locks the three point when switched to use the auxiliary outputs. Sounds like yours doesn't.

If you want independent and simultaneous operation of the three point and a cylinder, you have to build a completely separate hydraulic system for the new cylinder, like came with my MF-135 hauling a MF-236 loader. There a loader pedestal served as the hydraulic reservoir, the loader valve was mounted on that pedestal and it used a PTO driven pump. After that pump was stolen, I changed to a crankshaft driven pump that was more suited to the load and let me run PTO driven implements without having to take the loader off.

Gerald: Many thanks for your helpful reply. I will adjust to the situation. My 3-point does lock as you mentioned, so I think our two systems are the same. The little tractor is like a little bulldog, so I will get a lot of good service out of it. If I get tired of the way it works, I'll remind myself of the way we cut, raked, and baled hay 50 years ago, when I was a pup. Best regards, Jim Giddens

I just want to say I think you are really going to like the tractor.I have a 165 and out of 7 tractors I own it is far and away my favorite. It is much easier to get on and off than my big tractors. It is fairly modern and very versatile.I had even considered getting a 135 too.Never owned a 175 but assume it is as appealing as my 165.It's easy to get parts for and I have had few problems. It' the one out of 7 that always starts , even in subzero temps.Good luck with it.
