I have a 135 late 60's (probably) has the slot for multi-power but does not have it. Has continental gas with 6 speed tranny. Had a rattle in the transmission when i purchased it but it has gotten worse. I changed the hyd. oil, cleaned the filter hoping this would help, but to no avail. I found a small bolt (1/4 by about 1 1/2 in long laying in the bottom of the housing near the hyd filter. You could tell it had been roughed up.
The rattle or knock though comes from way up front. Could actually be in the clutch area and you can feel the vibration in the clutch pedal when you depress it. The rattle seems to be in all gears or in neutural, does not matter. Sometimes it may lessen with clutch depressed, but it is hard to tell.
Any thoughts?
The old tractor runs and pulls strong. I hate to lay it aside but I realize something is going to break or let go if I don't fix it.
Thanks for any help.
David

It sounds like an input bearing where as it is in all gears and neutral A mechanics stethescope can help to indicate the exact location. You are correct in not useing untill its fixed. Its time for a rebuild. Use the opportunity to change the clutch and throw out bearing.

Thanks for input. I am beginning to feel that it has to be in this area. It is almost quite while cold, but as it warms up it really shows up.

David:

Does it make the noise when the lift is not fully raised?

If not, it is probably the pump rattling against the alignment pins when in constant pumping against the relief valve.

Yes, it makes the noise in any poistion. I have noticed the lift up noise, but this different. When I bought the tractor it was not to bad but I have used it quite a bit lately pulling some trees and stuff that I had dug with a track hoe. Now, even at idle, with the hydraulics at operating temp. the knock is very pronounced. As I noted in in my original posting it is so far forward that I am beginning to wonder if could either be in the clutch area or the main bearing in the front of the transmission.
When I serviced the transmission a few days ago, I looked in through the fill plug with a flash light, which does not offer much view, but could see no signs of wear or tear from that viewpoint.
But this is getting bad enough that I don't want to do much with it until I get something done.
I have a friend who is quite capable and I feel we can fix it, I was just hoping someone had run across this type of thing before.
Thanks,
David

It sounds like it could be clutch related. Someone will have a better idea but I wouldn't run it till it's fixed. Dave

Thanks,
I am beginning to think clutch also. Which, may be better that transmission. When I purchased the tractor the rattle was slight enough that it was hard to tell where it was coming from and I assumed a chipped gear or a rough bearing. But lately I have pulled quite a bit of downed trees, dug by a friend with his trach hoe, and now the knock is much more pronounced. It is so far forward that I am hoping it may be clutch related.
But thanks for input. I am wanting to get it fixed before something lets go and I really do some damage.
