I have picked up a couple of tractors, a MF 250 that has a good engine and a bad transmission and a MF 30B with a frontend loader (MF 34A). The engine has been opento the weather on the 30B for some time and the head is missing. The tranny is full of oil with no evidence of leaks. Both machines have the 3.152 perkins diesel and both have the 3 spd transmissions with hi/lo and separate reversing lever. So here is the question, what is the feasibility of swapping the engine out of the 250 into the 30B?

OK I checked! If you have 2 complete engine/trans you will be OK. Seems like your MF250 has a lip seal crank and the MF30B doesn't. The last letter in the block SN shows "L" if it's lip seal. Your clutches may be different because of the linkages, the 30B you push out and the the 250 pushes down this will only slow you down not stop you from doing what you want...Gary

I think the MF250 was a UK tractor similar to the North American 245 Orchard. The engines should be interchangeable. I will ask tomorrow and repost...Gary

I was surprised you didn't get any bites on your question. I'm not a tractor mechanic - but seems you've got a pretty close match. Same trans? Same mounts? Seems some one ought to have BTDT. Good luck!

The only thing that concerns me is that the 30B has the front crankshaft driven hyd pump for the loader. Not sure if the crank is different somehow. When I go and look at the engine rebuild kits, they list different kits for the two engines. So I'm not sure just what all the differences are.
