My father in law and I got his old 65 running again. Tank has been drained, cleaned and is perfect. Fuel line is flowing plenty and clean. We took the carb off and everything on this inside seems perfect and moves just fine. Made a new gasket for it in the center of the carb and for the carb to manifold side. The tractor will fire right up and sounds good but after about 10-15 seconds will almost die until the govener kicks in and stops it from dying. It will just do this over and over. We have adjusted the carb slightly but nothing. Any ideas where we can start and what we can check? 2 years ago the tractor ran just fine. Thoughts?

If I am not mistaken, the bowl vent and the idle circuit pass through the gasket. Your gasket should have two 1/4 inch holes inline between the needle seat and the venturi, I would guess that one of these is blocked. If not, you have a passage plugged. HTH Aaron

Are you reffering to the two very small holes dead center on the large gasket in this pic?

I am actually positive that the gasket is golden. So if it is a blocked passage...how can we get it unblocked?

[crosses fingers and hopes no one says get a new carb]
