My MF255 has been loosing prime lately. I let it sit 4-5 days and it will start and it seems to run fine for a few seconds and then dies and has to be primed. I have checked all lines to make sure they were tight and not sucking air. What could be the problem??? If I use it everyday it doesn"t seem to have the problem. Anyone got any suggestions where to start?? Thanks in advance, Joe Snodgrass, New Palestine, In.

Also check the primary pump. I've had a couple tht drew air around the outside edges of the diaphram. Sometimes just tightening the 4 screws that hold it together can seal them. Other times it takes a rebuild kit. The ones I had trouble with would allow air to leak in while the tractor sat not being used.

My thought is the fuel filter gasket. There is a ring seal on the top of the filter that can leak air. Its possible that the fuel is settled down slightly and creating an air pocket at the top of the filter. Running the engine for a minute would draw this into the injector pump. Alcohol and fuel additives are known to eat gaskets.
