I can't say much about reliability yet. I just purchased my first MF 175 diesel(1972) 2 1/2 months ago. So far so good. I like it. It's nice to have enough power to easily do field work and other chores around the farm. Winter will give her a test. I use my tractors in the woods here in western NY to cut firewood and plow snow, so cold starts will need to be fairly easy and reliable. Just bought a block heater to install soon.

Big Dean is the man to comment on reliability. He's worked on these machines for years. I asked the same question before I bought mine and he assured me that the 175 is a good machine. Previous care and maintenance is the key. He's also graciously helped me with some questions about operation and maintenance. I'm sure I'll need some additional assistance because I'm a relatively new part time farmer(11 years)who is only a so so mechanic.
Big Dean, are you out there to help this fellow?

I work on diesel and gas trucks and equipment.Just had an older 175 come in.Lift worked in fall, but does not work now.Tractor has set out in weather for years.Water in oil.Oil level full.I am thinking stuck relief valve or main pump?Just got service manul today.Any ideas welcome.I have been seeing several of these tractors with a wide range of problems. They seem pretty solid though.
