MF aux. valve?

Came across this top cover 2-spool valve recently & couldn't pass it up. Looked like a MF valve to me & seems to have a MF part #(04 135 022 M1), but it doesn't look exactly like any of the valves I've seen in my 165 manuals/parts books.

Anyone recognize it? Early 60's/late 50's valve maybe?

Jeff

I just put the same valve on a 135. The missing thing on the side is a by-pass valve which is always turned in according to my manual. Don't know what it does. The two switch knobs on the back change the valve from two way, turned in, to one way cylinder, turned out.I have the left side blocked off and the right on an auxilary cylinder. The left had the switch knob turned out. It works this way. The left lever locked in the rear position allows the regular 3pt controls to work normally. In the middle position the 3pt is locked in position. Push it forward and the 3pt goes down. You can set the position control valve on the quadrant to a chosen high position and run the 3pt with the left valve. The right valve runs the aux. cylinder. No selector to switch. It works well as a 3pt and aux cylinder setup.

Thanks Amako, if it fits the 165 it'll be just what I was looking for to control the cylinder on my drag mower.

Do you have to set the quadrant to "constant pumping" to get pressure in the valve, or is the pump supplying pressure full time?

Jeff

I have a cylinder on a scoop which attaches to the 3pt. On my ford 800 the aux. valve works this cylinder and the 3pt lifts the scoop. The MF valve works both functions. Mine works with the position control set in any position. The aux. cylinder does seem to work faster in Constant pumping. The position control works like a preset max. up position. The left valve lever lifts at the normal 3pt rate but when the lever is pushed forward the 3pt drops very fast. You can control the drop by controling how far you push the lever forward. The setup has lots of ways to control the equipment.

My valve has a different part number. The valve on the side is turned all the way out. I think the ones on the back are all the way in. Whenever you are using the 3 pt. if the left valve is in neutral the pump will not hold it at the same constant position. That's why it is best to pull it back and use the side controls. You also have no draft control with the center valve. Dave

Yes, you have to put the left valve in neutral and put the 3 pt. control in constant pumping with the draft control all the way back. If I remember on mine the needle valves on the back are to change from single to double acting and the right one is in and the left one for the 3 pt. is out. The needle valve on the side I think just shuts off the hydraulics. On Big Deans or another web site it explains about the valves. When using the 3 pt. I think it works better to pull the left lever back and use the side controls as then the 3 pt. will stay at the desired position. When the valve is in neutral the 3 pt. does creep down. This is normal. The 3 pt. will creep down slowly when you shut the tractor off as well. Dave

Yes, I would agree it's an MF valve. The port on the side might be for a thumb screw like the 2 on the back. It looks similar to the valve on my 1965 UK135 but mine only has aux. ports for the right side valve. The left side valve runs the 3 pt. It might be a valve for a tractor with an aux. pump. I think it is one of the more deluxe valves but apparently Massey had a bunch of different ones. If I remember I'll take a look at mine and get the part number. I imagine that valve is worth quite a bit. Good find. Dave

Thanks Dave....you're right about the side port, it has an adjustable needle valve that goes in there. I guess it is for flow control?

The two knurled knobs on the back have a spring & bullet behind them....metering valves?

I'm not sure if the holes on bottom match up to my 165's lift cover or not, we'll see.

Jeff
