Massey 30 fuel leak

My Massey 30 has a new carb kit but still floods the air intake pipe if left to its own devices.

When I shut off the stopper on the fuel bowl it drips gas at the petcock, lowering the tank 5/16" by my measurement overnight.

Short of removing the tank to replace the fuel bowl assembly, is there a way to repair the petcock?

I think this was a design feature of the MS carburetor...mine leaked as well. I rebuilt the carb and discovered (I think) that the needle is too short...I added a piece of tin to the underside of the float (where the float meets the needle)...now it does not leak.

Can't help you with the petcock though...mine has been replaced with a working one...thanks previous owner.

Interesting idea about the shim under the float.

I had the hood off today to change the oil filter, so I looked at the situation.

The petcock turned out to need a half-turn of tightening on the inner nut. Flow is much reduced now with the fuel turned off.

One month from today it will all be over, so Plowing Match preparations are reaching a fever pitch in Crosby, Ontario. This week the Massey 30 put in ten hours hauling wood chips in the firewood spreader for trails through our woodlot. The long, full-throttle runs up Chant's hill have left my exhaust manifold with a hole on the inside, just forward of the exhaust stack. Does one normally weld these or buy a new unit? I saw a couple on eBay last night.
