I went to go look at a Massey Harris 44 today. It belonged to my great grandfather and I was surprised to find it was a 6 cylinder engine. I know these are more rare than the 4 cylinder engines, but just how rare are they. How many of them were made? The tractor also has a factory wide front. I dont know if the wide front makes it more valuable or not, but I decided to mention that just incase. I am never going to sell the tractor, I am just curious. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,

You have the Industrial version of a Massey. It was unique to the Air Force and Navy. There were only 700 of these made.Does your"s have a cab? Magnet? These are nice tractors and somewhat rare. I know of 4 in Central Indiana. One has the working magnet under it!! Neat to watch it work. Would like to see a pic of yours. What are you located?

According to the Massey Tractor Data Book by Keith Oltrogge, their were 6,657 total 44-6 and a total of 83,755 44's, not to mention the later 44 Specials which added another 10,719.

I am curious. Do you have the totals of each model built? Lots more 4 cylinder models than the 44-6 RC and Standard,including the 44 RC,44 Standard,44 D Orchard,44 D RC, 44 D Standard, 44GRA,44 Orchard,44 Special, 44 Vinvard, 44K RC,44K Standard,44 LP RC,44 LP Standard.

I do have a note in my book that says there were 6,647 44-6 RC manufactured. Don't know where I got that information from.Obviously my serial number guide is flawed. Thanks ,bob
