I bought a 180 at a fair price. I knew the multipower wasnt working but hoped it would be fairly simple to fix. I may have been wrong. Anyway, The multipower is stuck in the low side. The Aux hydraulics and pto work fine. I have adjusted the linkage and that did not help. I am going to change the hydraulic oil and filter and clean the intake screen today. Does anyone know the part no. of the hydraulic filter out at the front of tractor? I am also going to pick up a I&T manual today. If anyone has any other ideas for me to try I would appreciate it before I break the tractor into pieces. Also if the multipower is indeed shot would it be better to find a tranny that doesnt have multi power and do it that way. Anyway thanks in advance for any help and wish me luck.

Your problem may be the type of hydralic oil that's in it I changed mine w/ oil from tractor supply and my multi-power stop working went to mf dealer used there oil now it's working again. they told me cheaper oil foams up.

For what its worth you can remove the disc"s from the high clutch pack weld the override clutch and then you have six speed that want roll over the hill and can be pulled and started! it can be locked in high but the dogs has to be remove from the override clutch or you will never get it out of gear on a high

I have the same problem with the multipower on my old 65. No brakes and no engine braking either. The lever moves the shaft up and down in the transmission but nothing happens. I am going to look up inside the clutch housing to see of the valve shaft is moving but have not got that far yet. Is this a common problem with the multipower?
If I can not grt it to work it looks like welding up the clutches and removeing the paws in the overrunning clutch. Thanks so much

Hello,
Indeed before you pull the tractor apart, there is one strong possibility that I do not think anyone has mentioned. There is a part steel, part flexible hydraulic hose running between the pumpo and the MP clutch pack. These hoses breaking were a fairly regular problem on earlier tractors but I'm not sure about later ones. If this hose is leaking or broken it will give the appearance of being 'stuck' in MP low.
Cheers

The MultiPower really is a valuable feature. Some love it, some hate it. If you get a different tranny from a junk yard, it might be just that, junk. In addition, I think you would need a different pump, maybe not. I know its basically two pumps in one housing on the MP units with Ipto and external hydraulics. I've read that leaving it in low can damage the transmission over time due to lack of oil, but my manual says it can operate in either range continously. Mine does not work on my 175, and I've used it for two years without, no problem. It does everything I need in low. I'll fix it when I have replace the hydraulic pump.

Your 180 is not stuck in low, low range is just a overrun clutch, low is mechanical thats it no pump or anything needed, high uses a clutch pack that engages when you flip the level in high and then you need your pump and psi and so on but when in high in low overrun clutch is doing just that overrunning hope this helps a little

Thanks for that filter number I also found it and thats the correct number. Now Im gonna change the oil and clean the pickup screen and pray that it is useable. But... If its not then I have to try and decide which road to take. Fix the multipower or change the tranny. I am leaning toward changing the trans. If I do what all transmissions would fit? Thanks

Re: Filter,

The filter for my 175 was Agco number 191855M4. It is likely the same for the 180, but you should double check first.
