I was doing tractor work and noticed smoke. When I checked it out I had a stick/trash coming out of the oil pan. I noticed that a small cover was missing (4 holes). The oil pressure was good. I then checked the dip stick and it had oil. How could the cover or check plate be missing and not loose all of the oil?

Before I buy a new plate how do I clean it out?
Or I am confused and this opening does not conflict with the oil pan holding oil.

Thanks

That's the clutch inspection plate you're talking about. It isn't linked to any sump that can drain through it. Clean it out good with your hands and someone else better tell you what solvent to use as I don't know enough. You can make another plate if they are too expensive to buy. Put four bolts in with lock washers. I don't know why these things disappear. Mine was missing too and I had the same questions. I ran without one for a long time but that grit and those sticks and stuff might ail it over time. Hope this helps
