MF50 lift

I've got a late '57 MF50 that has trouble keeping the three point lift up. To raise it I've got to give it plenty of throttle and keept the rockshaft lever all the way back. If I move the lever forward even a little, the cutter I've got attached hits the ground. Also, if I push in the clutch the cutter will hit the ground regardless of throttle or rockshaft lever position. I know this isn't because of the top link being adjusted improperly...I've checked that several times. I haven't had time to service this yet so I'm hoping it could be something as simple as dirty hydrualic fluid, but I'm worried it's something more serious. Any ideas, suggestions, comments? This tractor has been in the family for several years but I just recently had it brought up to my location; work keeps me too busy to have enough time to play with it, so any advice is helpful!

Hi Robert You have a serious leak in your hydraulic system there are a few things that could cause that problem. I would start by draining the oil down below the bottom bolt in the access plate on the right side the one with the dipstick in it. Remove the access plate and that will let you look inside for the leak watch when you try to raise the lift to see if you can see where it is leaking. If it has oil running down from the top you have a cylinder problem. It could be the cylinder is crack or the O-ring that goes between the cylinder and the liftcover is blown. It could be the standpipe that goes from the pump to the cross over cap on top of the lift cover has a blown O-ring blown. Look for heavy turbulence near the right rear corner of the pump that would be the relief valve. If none of those are it then it would be something in the pump. If you will let me know what you found I will try to help you more

Thanks for the info! It'll take a while to get to that point; I work at a john deere dealer (mechanics are too fond of the green and yellow to bother with a red tractor...), and we're smack in the middle of harvest season so I'm at work at least 12 hours a day. I've heard the video available on this site is helpful as well, your thoughts?
