Got a 300 Massey combine with a bad tranny ,, After researching ,in order to swap the tranny out , It seems the planetary housings must be split and both wheels removed in order to split the tranny to repair a simple bent fork ,, Question ,SINCE ,I have a donar machine , Would it be less work to crib up the combine and swap wheels ,axle ,tranny and all in one afternoon ? Has anyone ever attempted this ? Thanx Jim

The reason one has to remove the final drive is to get the axle shafts out of the transmission. If you remove the right hand final drive, the transmission, when unbolted, should slide to the right, sliding out of the left axle shaft. You don't need to disassemble the final drive, you just have to unbolt it from the main axle. Block the machine, reove the right wheel, remove the brake line, parking brake acctuator unbolt the final drive from the main axle. The right axle shaft will then pull out of the transmission. Loosen the belts, remove the shift linkage unbolt the transmission and slide it to the right out of the left axle shaft.
