Hi. I have an 1135 Massey with a new 705 Leon Front End Loader with a grapple fork that I just put on. It works well for hauling round bales, except that it seems a bit weak on the heavier bales, to the point where it almost doesn't have enough power to lift them. I am talking about bales that weigh approx. 1400 lbs. I just checked the hydraulics with a flow/pressure meter and they are putting out 11gpm at 1500rpm with a relief pressure of 2150 lbs. This is within specs. The lift cylinders on the 705 front end loader are 2 1/2" bore. Would I get more lifting power if I changed them to say a 3" or 3 1/2" bore cylinder? I realize I would sacrifice a bit of speed using bigger cylinders, but would it give me more lifting power? With the pressure I have at 2150 lbs, I should be getting more lift than 1400 lbs no? Thanks for all your replies!

Where are you checking your flow & pressure at?Try checking it at 2200 rpm out of the remote couplers. It should lift a 2000lb.bale without any problems at any engine rpm if you truely have 2150lbs pressure at your remote coupler.

I am checking the flow and pressure at the mid mount couplers where the loader connects to. I have since adjusted the relief valve and have set the pressure to 2450psi. I will let you know if it has helped a lot or not. Thanks!

The hydraulics seem about the right speed with the lighter bales, the hydraulic pump is new, I just put it on and as the flow/pressure test shows, it is working okay.

You should be able to lift the bales no problem. Does it seem slow or just no power? Maybe under a heavy load something in the hydraulics is by-passing or the pump is getting weak. Are the bales as close to the tractor as possible? Bigger cylinders would lift more at a slower speed but could also put a lot of extra stress on the loader and tractor. I have 2 inch cylinders on my loader and can pick up 2000 lbs. but don't like to. Dave
