I relaced the pan gaskets and still had a bad leak. Thanks Dean for mentioning the two hidden pan bolts.
Splitting the tractor was not as difficult as I thought. Thanks to all who mentioned placing the wood wedges over the front axle beams
I was having a problem removing the engine/transmission adapter plate to get at the rear main seal housing..
I finally found the two allen bolts hidden behind the battery support bracket. I was able then to remove the adapter plate and change the rear main seal and seal housing gasket.
I measured the flywheel step and it was 1.712"
The new clutch assembly called for 1.71" so it should work just fine.
I've changed the pilot and clutch bearings and I'm working on the transmission input seal.
I cannot get the input seal housing to slide off of the shafts.
Do the shafts have to come out with the housing?

I received what was supposed to be a shop manual on CD but it turned out to be nothing more than a glorified user manual scanned and put into a PDF file.
I also ordered the parts manual on CD. It's all there but it's just a simple PDF file with no search functions. Both these CDs came from eBay and I would not recommend them. The books are better for working in the shop. I've ordered a CIT shop manual and Dean's CD and hopefully they will arrive soon so I can get the torque specs for the flywheel and clutch assembly and some proper disassembly guides. If someone could give me the torque specs now I would appreciate it. I could then finish the front half of the tractor. Thanks for your patience with some pretty basic questions.

The wood wedges are used to prevent the entire front end from pivoting on the axle pin when you split the tractor. This could be nasty (and dangerous) if you are using a floor jack to support the front end when you split. I used a floor trolley jack with jack stands as backups to split mine but there are are other posts on this site that describe different splitting procedures. Just remember...safety first.

I was able to get all 3 manuals for my MF-690, Operator Manual, RepairManual, and Parts Manual. Ordered through local MF dealer. Best money I ever spent. Have not had any luck with anything but real OEM manuals. Sometimes the Parts Manual has the very best details and exploded views. Tom
