Good Morning,

I was hoping that someone might offer a little insight into the adjustment on my power steering. I"ve rebuilt the cylinder and control valve and replaced all pins and bushings and the swivel. Ive done the adjustment on the steering box and checked all tie rods and the drag link, alls well. Mine has the assembly where the upper arm (attached to the draglink) has a tab that fits into a square opening on the bottom arm. The manual only shows one setscrew and lock nut on the bottom assembly. Mine has two, one on the front and one in the back. I"ve followed the advice on this site and the manual to a T. I can get the steering to work to the right, but not to the left. With careful adjustments, the power to the right eventually goes away, but the left never works. I think the two setscrew setup mine has is causing the problem. My manual does not adress the two screw set up. Has anyone every worked on one with this two screw arrangement? I don"t want to have to take it to the dealer with my tail between my legs. Plus, they charge extra if you"ve already worked on something yourself! Thanks in advance for any insight you might be able lend.

That system with the engine not running requires enough slack there for the steering mechanism to completely open the selector valve on top of the cylinder in both direction before the mechanism contacts those set screws. It sounds like your does not have enough slack to do that. You need to screw the set screws out till they will let the mechanism move enough to completely open the selector valve in both directions. You may have to adjust them a little at a time with the engine running till it will have power steering in both direction. Then tweak it a little at a time till the power steering is working as it should. Hope this helps if I can be of further help email me Big Dean
