Good Afternoon,
I recently came across a gentlemen with a Vermeer 604J Round baler and a Fella SM320 (9"10" disc mower)for $3200, for the pair. Both are in used condition, but appear to operational, and he says they are. No leaks from the mower, turns smooth, needs knives flipped over. The baler looks to be in great shape, good belts, air bags holding air, etc. He says he"s just hard up for money. I typically burn then graze my Bahia pastures until July when I harvest a seed crop. The grass regrows and a fellow comes and bales it, we split final product. I figured, for $3200 for both, and hay prices through the roof in Florida, I"ll bale it myself, I used to do it quite a bit growing up with similar equipment. I already have a side delivery rake that just needs teeth replaced. My questions are these:
1.Mower calls for at least 60 hp, I think my 175 will run it. Doesn"t it put out around 65 pto hp?
2. Will the baler be a little much for the tractor?
3. Anything specific to look out for ont the Vermeer?
4. If it"s to good to be true, is it?

All help is appreciated.

2. Will that baler be too much for the M

Sorry,

Left off the important question:

The baler appears to have Four sets of hoses, mine is the single set of remotes. How hard or costly is it add the other set. The parts manual shows both configurations.
