The power steering on my 65 started to have hard spots in it suddenly. I checked the level of the fluid, and its full, but looks somewhat bubbly. Does this mean my pump is getting weak? What else could cause this problem?

Thanx Matt Marsh

If you look at the Cylinder infront of the radiator you will see a valve on top with a small turnbuckle to push/pull the valve in and out. The turnbuckle has a small roll pin on one end and a clevis pin on the other. the pins and the holes they fit in wear resulting in too much "play" or lost motion to move the valve properly. Replace the roll pin, clevis pin and the clevis pin end of the turnbuckle. Now you can adjust the turnbuckle so that the valve helps both directions equally.

My MF 175 acts the same way. The hard spots are usually at the end of the travel. But sometimes just sitting at idle, wheels nearly straight, I have a tough time starting to turn. I'm interested in hearing what the experts say.

Rather than replacing the turnbuckle ends, we drilled them out to the next larger size (3/16", I think), and replaced the roll pins with clevis pins. Had to build one up with brazing and re-drill.
