I'M JUST WONDERING IF YOU GUYS THINK A 35 DIESEL WOULD PULL A 8.5' PULL TYPE HARROW (SEVERAL INCHES DOWN) AND A 7000 JD PLANTER. THE PLANTER ISN'T AS HARD AS THE HARROW BUT NOT SURE HOW MUCH THE TRACTOR CAN PULL

It will pull the harrow/drag but I think it will
have trouble with a 4 row planter.

Hi Mitchip

Just be sure this is a 3 cylinder perkins, not a 4 cylinder Standard motors diesel (which has much lower torque)before comparing with a 135. If its a 4 cylinder, forget it. The 135 has the later model 3 cylinder perkins too with 45 rather than 39 engine hp like the 1961-64 MF35.

You didn't notice the carburetor in my picture? My MF-135 has a Continental gas engine, no diesel. It didn't work hard planting 4 rows.

I planted notill in bean straw this year with this JD 7000 4 row narrow planter while applying 32% N fertilizer a couple inches from the row. I had to limit the fertilizer to 30 gallons at a time in the three point sprayer to keep the tractor front wheels on the ground with only 100 pounds per front wheel of wheel weights. Pulling the planter was no problem I think I did it at 1600 rpm to get about 4 mph.

My planter has Dawn trash whippers and AC coulters up front with ammonia knives for the 32% that I pumped to 30 psi and metered through orifices for each row.

I put the seed down about 2-1/4" and from the looks of the coulters, I probably put the fertilizer a little deeper and probably 2-1/4" to the side. The corn certainly seems to have liked that application.

I have planted with a 6 row narrow Cyclo 400 and the MF-135. That planter was enough heavier that the rear tires of the tractor would slide sideways while turning the raised planter and it took quite a bit of the tractor's horsepower running the belt driven blower. I say planted loosely because while it was good at the overall count, the seed spacing was far from uniform varying from clumps to 18" or more between seed. Not what it takes for a good crop.

I pulled at least two sections of flexible spike tooth harrow behind my 6' offset disk in plowed ground with my MF-135. If I let that disk seek its own level the dirt would be going over the tops of the spools on the front gang. Then it pulled like my 2x16 Case three point plow.

I once read on here that a guy was able to pull a four row 7000 with a 135. I was contemplating the same feat, but the planter was too much and you'd probably have to have some weight on the front.
I know my dad used to pull about a 8.5 spiketooth harrow with a 135 as well - generally speaking HP wise the 35 and 135 are simular so I guess could use that as a rule of thumb.
