I just replace my oil pan gasket and it didn't even slow the leak in the front and from the bellhousing. I have smoke and oil coming from the blowby tube. I think the leak may be my main seals and the top end needs a rebuild. My local shop charges $55 hr. How much am i looking at for a shop to rebuild vs. myself? I am mechanincally inclined, should I tackle this myself. Any pointers and advice will help. thanks.

I agree with the other posts and would add to get the CD from Big Dean. It is clear, concise, complete and a HUGE help. Plus, you can contact him when something goes wrong.

Hi,
As mentioned the work is fairly straightforward. Obviously any machining work would have to be done outside. A good manual is essential and we are here to talk you through any questions or problems you might have.

rebuilding a tractor engine is just the same as doing a car--lot less cylinders---make sure u buy the complete matching kit---the prices on this site are quite reasonable--also have on hand a manual--lots of libraries have them or u can get a video also on this site for about $24 that covers ure tractor--shows u everything takes it rite down to the block--called Engine rebuilding for MF tractors---good luck----john
