Cody, I believe Don is referring to the smaller
series MF. The 85 has independent LPTO. Does your
power steering work ok-they use the same pump for their pressure. Have you cleaned the inlet
screen on that small pump? They
can get pretty plugged up. The pump is on the RH
side of transmission case held on by 6 bolts. You
may have to drain down approx 5 gals of oil to
avoid a spill when you remove. If the pump has the
original short screen w/o an extension it is important that the hyd/trans oil be kept on or near the full mark. Chuck

I doubt it's a hydraulic Live PTO on that tractor, it'll be controlled by the clutch.

Push the clutch pedal down, and then try to push the lever back. If it grinds, your PTO clutch is out of adjustment, or could be shot.

You've probably got a 2-stage clutch, where 1/2 way down will stop the tractor's movement, and all the way down will stop the PTO and the hydraulic pump for the 3 pt. and multi-power (if so equiped) Of course this is all if the clutch is still within proper adjustment.

The 85 and Super 90 Masseys have Independant PTO with a hydraulic clutch. They can also be operated like a 2-stage clutch as the pressure is released on the pto when the clutch pedal is depressed all the way.
