I just bought new spindles and bushings for my 65 hiarch. In my kit, I recieved one split bushing and 3 solid bushings. Which is correct or does it matter? It seems that it will have to be reamed after it is installed anyway, the solid bushings wont slip on the spindle shafts.

Hello David,
Split or solid bushes don't matter as long as they are fitted correctly. Yes they will need to be reamed by a special in-line reamer which locates in one bush and reams the other. As you have a high clearance I don't think the standard reamer will be any good as it may not be long enough. One alternative to reaming is to machine a holder for the bush in a lathe and fit the bush to it in the lathe. It should be a slightly looser fit than in the axle. Bore out to the size of the shaft and then fit the bush to the axle.
The metal remaining will be mimimal and can be removed using a cylinder honing tool so that the spindle fits. Just take out the bare minimum until the spindle with and is snug to turn.

Thanks David P. I have a machinist that will take care of this for me.
