MF-135 Power Steering Wheel Wobble

I"m considering buying my first tractor - a 1967 MF-135 diesel with power steering. The tractor is in great shape but when I drove it I noticed a problem with the steering. The right front tire would occasionally start to wobble left-right if I hit a bump. Other times it would be fine. It could happen at slower speeds, but it happened more at higher speeds. It normally stopped if I stopped the tractor, but one time with the tractor stopped the wheel kept wobbling left-right. I"ve read a lot on this site about power steering woes with the MF"s. Is this just a problem with air in the system, or is there some bigger problem going on? The power steering was recently rebuilt.

Thanks in advance for any information and help. This is a great site for someone new to tractors like me.

Check wheel bearings and tie-rod ends. I changed out tie-rod ends on a 135 for a friend just yesterday. It was doing the same thing. Just a little slack in each end will compound until you get a LOT of slack in the front end.

Steering gear adjustments of gear mesh is also critical. I found slop in the radius rod bolts and balls also contributes. I've put new bearings in the steering gear box too. New bolts on the fronts helped. I have 100 pounds of wheel weights on the outsides of the front wheels and that makes the oscillation worse. I plant one foot on the back end of each drag link to stop the oscillation and that usually works.
