I did a dry compression check. #1cylinder 100lbs., No.2,3&4 175#. Then I squirted oil in the #1 cylinder and it came up to 125lbs. Does that mean piston rings? The tractor has been setting for quite a while. It seems like every time I run it, it gets a little better. Could I have a stuck valve or piston rings that is starting to loosen up? I would like to hear somebodys ideas?

Try pulling the number 1 spark plug lead and see if that is indeed the one missing. Might be a bad plug or a bad wire somewhere else.

If vertical exhaust, it might be surface rust on the cylider with the exhaust valve open when it was parked. If this problem worsens, you can get a sleeve, piston, rings, and pin for just one cylinder. Or bite the $869 dollar bullet and do 'em all! Hope this helps, Aaron
