MY 3PT GOES UP AS SOON AS STARTED EVEN WHEN LEVERS ARE BOTH IN DOWN POSITION. WHEN TRACTOR IS STOPPED THE ARMS DRIFT DOWN AFTER AWHILE. TOOK OFF RH COVER AND VERTICAL ARM AND PUMP LEVER DO NOT MOVE WHEN DRAFT CONTROL AND POSITION CONTROL LEVERS ARE RAN THEIR FULL MOTION. IT IS A 165 WITH MULTIPOWER WHICH WORKS FINE. IT STARTED THIS WHEN I WAS USING TRACTOR, IT DID NOT DO IT FROM JUST SITTING.

SERIAL #643001787, I THINK THIS IS A 1966 YR. THE LEVERS ARE BOTH IN PRETTY MUCH VERTICAL POSITION AND THEY MOVE MAYBE AN 1/8 OF AN INCH WHEN THE LEVERS ARE RUN THEIR FULL TRAVEL..TRIED TO MOVE BY HAND BUT THEY ARE LIKE ALMOST FROZE/STUCK IN THIS POSITION, DON'T REALLY WANT TO PRY ON THEM TOO HARD AND BREAK SOMETHING. ANY MORE SUGESTIONS...THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi,
What position is the pump lever in? There are springs in the lift cover which allow you to move the levers if there is a seizure for example. Can't suggest any more until we know whether the pump lever is free or not.

BOTH LEVERS VERTICAL AND PUMP LEVER DO NOT MOVE MORE THAN AN 1/8 OF AN INCH OR SO. I ASSUME THE VERTICAL LEVER IS THE FLAT ONE IN THE REAR AND THE PUMP LEVER IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT. THEY ARE BOTH IN A STRAIGHT UP VERTICAL POSITION.....THAKS FOR INFO

Hi,
Sounds like the control valve in the pump is stuck. This can be caused by a couple of things;
Oil overheating, if the relief valve is allowed to blow for any length of time and heat the oil beyond its normal operating temperature.
Broken oscillator. Is your 165 an early one? Early ones had an aluminium oscillator link which is there to keep the control valve free by its back and forth movement. They were later replaced with steel ones.
If you have the side cover removed you will probably see that the pump lever is leaning towards the rear. This is in the implement raising position.
Once the 3-pt linkage has reached its selected position this lever should be vertical.
It will move to the leaning forward position when you lower the quadrant lever and then re-assume the vertical position. Try pushing forward gently on the lever, that might just be enough to free it. If it is the oscillator link broken then this will happen again.
Please let us know what you find.
