I called three dealers today. The first two recommended the third. The third was gone from the phone for nearly five minutes looking for a part. When he came back he was frustrated, I think. But his comments seemed like it was my fault that he couldn't get the parts. He said the tractor was obsolete 25 years ago. I have only heard of this with one other tractor and that was Massey Harris - also by a Massey Ferguson dealer - I was told that the 44 Special was "no longer supported". I own Allis Chalmers, John Deere, Ford, Oliver, Minneapolis Moline, and Farmall. No dealer for these makes ever made comments like these. Generally they had most everything - especially soft goods (gaskets and sealing washers - the tough parts to make). This attitude of Massey Ferguson must be the British influence. None of the other makes suffer from it. The fact that the tractor was made in France is immaterial. John Deere makes tractors in several factories around the world and yet they support what they sell. I guess I'll make the parts I need but I'm crossing off Massey Ferguson on future needs. I'll stick with the others who don't "obsolete" their tractors.

Hi! I've recently acquired a French built 825, (same beast as 25)... still finding my way around both it and the dealerships, but so far no problems. Did you know this is essentially the same as a MF 130, which your local dealerships may be more familiar with, (sorry if I'm teaching Granny to suck eggs :)), If you have any serious probs with a small airmail-able part, feel free to e-mail and I'll see if I can obtain locally - can't guarantee but... !

Chas, are you in France or Canada? I'm impatient so will try my own ideas this week end. If I fail, I will call on you.

My Massey dealer had never heard of a 25. His snide remarks were all made about the 130.

Thanks,

So your still plugging away, you got the pto gear back in operation, but did you find any pieces in the tranny sump?
i notice your comment about support from massey:)
same here till i found a kubota dealer with the massey old time parts book, and who was giving service to a"customer" of parts. not all dealers are rude, but are limited in ability and/or company support themselves. maybe its the french connection up here that we have better luck:)
are you looking for the rubber hyd suction seal piece? the one on top of the suction between the tranny cover? find a proper inside dia o-ring, check dia of ring itself so that you will get at about .010 compression when the top is bolted, down, not to thick to cause stress.
also look up FAWCETT TRACTOR SUPPLY, salvage yard in Ontario they have some stuff.
As for engine parts its a 4-107 perkins, all available from perkins/CAV fuel pump. The 4-108 perkins will interchange most internals but not the head[ studs are different].
about all for now
regards

I am tenacious if nothing else. I will use this tractor as I intended to do regardless of the Massey rudeness. Without their help, I will find a way to make that connection. Thanks,

According to the Massey Tractor Data Book, probably less than a thousand Massey 25's were built. I found Massey Harris much more challenging to restore because they are more rare than the Farmalls, and the JD's, and the Ford N's. Even parts for the 101 Senior that I restored were difficult to find, and they were much more common, with the Continental motor than what you have.

I was reading in the Massey Data Book, and evidently I was reading about the Styled version being low production. The unstyled ones seemed to have a lot more produced. Hope I didn't sound like a dunderhead. Where in Texas are you located? I'm in Cedar Park just north of Austin. I'd love to see the ol 25. Is your 25 styled, or unstyled, and what year is it?

I needed to be more precise in the model - may have caused a mis-understanding. It is a Massey Ferguson 25. Since it was built in 1963 to 1965, they were all styled.

I guess what irked me was the guy's attitude. Treated me like an idiot or a fool. It's funny how the guy who meets the public can make or break a company. I'd sure fire that guy in a heartbeat.

I live north of Leander near the South San Gabriel River. Send me an email so we can exchange numbers.

Denny, I think the problem is simply the low numbers of that particular model that were build. I have a 40 year old 135 MF and I can get pretty much anything I want from a wide variety of sources, including dealers. The same is true of my WD Allis Chalmers, but they were pretty high production number tractors as well. I'm sure each manufacturer has a few models for which parts are difficult to find.

Hope this doesn't make too much of a fuss with Massey loyalists.
