Can anyone tell me if MF ever installed a Perkins Diesel 152 engine with lip seal in a 135 tractor? Does anyone know the year Perkins replaced the rope seal with the lip seal or the last model year of the 135?

According to information I've picked up from a serial number list in a tractor buying guide dating from the late 70s, the last US production year was 1974. But from the discussions on this forum this weekend it appears variants made in the UK, France, or India were made later and with different construction and parts that are not in my 1974 printed parts book. Indeed tractors that look like MF-135 are still being made somewhere in the world.

My book shows the diesel block had seal # 735 866 M1, two pieces, looks solid, not rope in the parts illustration. Perkins number 36883106. Same parts (two of them) used for the Perkins gas engine.

I see mention of the rope seal in my I&T manual. As a first guess, I suspect it was copied from the MF-35 manual without bothering to check to see in the similar engine used the same seal. Many have accused I&T manuals of being wrong or incomplete.

Its possible that a MF-35 engine has been bolted into a MF-135 as a replacement. I think it would fit just fine but be that different engine model to confuse finding parts.

Hi all,
Rope seals were fitted on UK built tractors up to serial number UA391044DL. This equates to approximately 1970.
Ther are several mafufacturers making MF look alikes around the world. Yes, TAFE is one of Indian origin as IMT have been in the past. Their '35' model is very similar but nothing is interchangeable. 'Our' 35 uses UNF and UNC threads, 'theirs' uses metric.

Thanks for all the information.
My real problem is this: I have a 1968 MF135 with a cracked block. I also have an almost new
Perkins engine with lip seal. The new engine will not bolt up to the MF135 transmission adapter plate, and the oil pan and flywheel are different. I need to either find the MF parts to allow me to use the new engine or sell it and buy a replacement block with a rope seal that matches what I have. Any suggestions?

Hi, All the tractors i have seen with lip seal engines are uk built and have straight axles and the larger 12" clutch(i think that is the correct size). The front axle casting and the crank are different so i dont know if the flywheel will fit.Have you tried swaping the oilpan to see if it will then fit to the adapter plate?

According to my parts book both the gas and diesel Perkins engines took the same adapter plate. Could be you have an adapter plate for some other tractor and need only to find one to fit the MF bell housing.
