I've purchased a second manual for my mh50 and it also shows brakes to be drum at outside end of rear axle. My brake actuator is close to where the axle meets the rear end housing (under seat). What is invloved with replacing the brakes?? Does the axle need to come apart???
This is a 1957 MH50.
I would appreciate any help...

hi,
I just pulled mine apart and lubricated them (the actuators thatis, not the brakes). Everything comes apart just like on a car. You pull the wheel off, then you can pull the brake drum. The brake drum has a couple of holes in it near the center of the hub that are tapped. Stick a couple of bolts into them, and they will pull right off without having to use a pry bar.at that point you will be able to see what you have and whether you need to replace anything.
Good luck, Tom

That's the problem. It does not have the drums out by wheels like the manual said. The actuator rods go into the axle close to the center directly under the seat. I'm not quite sure how much I have to take apart so I can plan on a time and expertise. I feel more confident knowing what I'm up against.

Any ideas????
