Z 145 Head Gasket Seal or Not to Seal? Engine Lube

The IT manual states "one side of head gasket is coated with sealant". The complete gasket set that came with rebuild kit DOESN'T have any coating on one side (down or up). It is a composit layered gasket. Do I use sealant such as copper seal or nothing? If I seal, which side?

Also, I have lubed the rings, bearings, cam with 90wt oil as I am putting together. Should I pressure the system with motor oil after completed and before attempting to start? It will be a while before I try to start it up. Still have to paint the split tractor and many parts.

Thanks, for the help so far

Head gaskets come in different qualities. The cheaper headgaskets don't have silicone seals on them, but they do seal fine. If you put any silicone on the headgasket you are guaranteed to have some major leaks..

Lubing the cam was ok. Lubing the rings are going to cause you some headaches. I never lube the rings on a rebuild. After about the third revolution of the engine, the oilpump lubles the fings for you. Lubing the rings (especially with heavy oil) is going to make your compression go through the roof. You'll be lucky if you can even get the engine to turn over. Been there and done that. I lubed the rings on my very first rebuild years ago, it was a total nitghmare trying to get that engine to turn over. If you are at the point where you can still pull the rings, you might want to clean them off.

When you first start the engine, it will rattle for a 30 secs minutes until the oil gets circulated. That is perfectly normal. Sort of like doing an oil change in your car, the first few secs or so the engine oil light comes on and you goes off + a little rattle.
