Help! My Dad has gone in nursing home and I must sell his late 50's early 60's tractor. What best way to get value on it? Garage kept, very good condition, believe TO35, he put snowplow on front (almost positive it is hydraulic). Not major farming area here. I see I can advertise on this site but do farmers travel far to pick up something like this?

DJK, as a postscript to my earlier reply, your question about do people travel far to pick up these tractors, the answer is it depends. Some love to travel, maybe retired, look for excuse to take a trip. Others have connections with regular truckers. But some won"t travel more than a couple hundred miles. Where are you?

There were two TO-35s, the Deluxe and the Special. The Deluxe has two stage clutch which gives 'live' PTO, meaning you can depress the clutch partway to a notch you feel with your foot and the tractor will stop; press it all the way and the PTO will also stop. The Deluxe also has a Tractometer (tach), but some Specials have the Tractometer also. Usually the Deluxe has a premium seat compared to the Special. The Deluxe is worth more, condition being equal, probably about $300 or so more than the Special. A Special in very good running condition, unrestored, with good tires usually brings around $3,000+ in my neck of the woods (Virginia). If your tractor has a serial number on the dash with the three letter prefix, the third letter will tell you Special or Deluxe. An 'M' means it is a Deluxe and an 'F' means it is a Special, but some don't have any prefix.

Make it pretty. Clean it good, touch up the paint. Looks sell. Not sure why, but they do. Placing a photo add here seems to work well. Throw a pic of it on the tractor and MF discussion pages too. Good Luck, Aaron

PS Where are you?

In my opinion, a TO-35 is not a tractor that a "modern farmer" will have much interest in unless he's a collector. However there are a bunch of folks on small acreages that could use this machine as well as people who collect the old iron.

And yes collectors will drive a long way for the right machine. Without implements and it good operating condition, these machines will bring somewhere around $3000-4000 depending on the features and the appearance. make sure that youhave no need for it before you offer it for sale.
