I have the engine on the stand after new sleeves installed. Crank is in and fitted.

Question: The rod cap bolt locks, the little flat things that bend against the hex, are broken and I went to three places yesterday looking for replacements, no luck! Two of the three shops suggested lock-tite, what do you think?

Thanks, Tom

Hello Tom,
You are referring to the main bearing cap bolt tabwashers. A similar thing has happened with the the early Perkins AD3.152 engines. Tabwashers are no longer available. The response which I believe has come from Massey Ferguson is to increase the tightening torque by 5 to 8 lb-ft. We have never had one come loose that this was done on.
As far as Loctite goes I wonder whether you would be able to get the femaile thread clean enough for the Loctite to work. Using it is not something that I would wish to do.

This would refer to the con-rod bolts as well.
