My husbands tractor. Battery cables are hot, and the points don't seem to making a connection. Won't let tractor start. Please help going bananas.

Hot battery cables are probably too small.

If the points don't make contact then they probably aren't adjusted properly or the distributor isn't turning because something in the drive is broken.

Hi,
FIrst of all check all of the connections and earth connections. Check that the cables are suitably heavy for the job. Is the starter warming up as well? When the cables start to warm up it is possible that the ignition system is being robbed of power to start the engine. Attach a jumper lead first as an extra earth cable between the starter body and battery. Then do the same with the live cable but from the battery to the solenoid. It may improve the cranking speed.
