I have a MF135 with the 4 cylinder continental engine, does this have enough power to pull and lift a 6 foot finish mower? Or should a stick with a 5 foot? I would prefer a 6 foot if possible. Anyone run one?

I've got a 135 with the Z145 Continental engine and a Woods RD7200 6' rear discharge finish mower. The tractor has plenty of power and regularly mow in High 1st gear. Plenty of ground speed and can lift and handle pretty well. The tractor would lift a heavier mower, but I'll bet the front of the tractor would start feeling a little light as well. I think 6' is an excellent fit because it's just slightly wider than the tractor tires.

It"ll pull 6" without a whimper. WAY more than enough power.

Since smaller tractors pull a 6' mower, I think it should pull a 7' finish mower just fine. I've pulled 6'3" flail mower and a 9'3" mower conditioner with my MF-135. Check the mower maker's recommendation for tractor horsepower. One thing with the 135 is it has enough gears that when the mowing gets tough you can drop down a gear or two and you can't do that with an earlier tractor with only three speeds in the transmission.

I have a MH 50 with the same Z134 engine that the 135 has and I use a 7' rear discharge finishing mower on it and run the 50 in the Hi side of 1st gear in grass that is mowed every week. Does a fine job. Tom

Deluxe MF-135 had a Z-145 or Perkins with a bit more power than the Z-134.

I've been figureing that if I needed a finish mower, I'd go for 7' width. The JD flail mower I have scallops so its not a finish smooth. At 5 mph a flail only gets to the bottom every few inches. Its kind of smooth at 1 mph, but that takes too long to mow.

My finishing mower is a 3pt with guage wheels I just lower it down and I'm off to the races. Does a fine job of cutting. Tom

 even a 1400 lb mower? in reply to Gerald J., 06-16-2007 11:05:17
One 6 foot mower I found for sale used is a woods D80, and according to the info on it the weight is 1200 to 1400 pounds. Can the MF135 3 point lift it without undue stress? I wouldnt lift it much but if I got stuck in mud or something I would need to lift it up.

My empty three point sprayer weighs under a couple hundred pounds. With 65 gallons of spray added the front wheels are light with 100 pounds on each of wheel weights. When starting I lift them off the ground some times. I'm working on adding more front weight for side dressing where I'd like to put 65 gallons of 32% in the sprayer tank while loading the drawbar with the tongue of the old planter that I use for my side dresser. I don't have a loader on my MF-135 now.

I had the same troubles with a 15 foot JD rotary hoe a few years ago, even with a loader on the tractor. That was a JD 415. Once the transmission oil got hot it wouldn't lift that hoe or the matching 6 row cultivator made from a 4 row wide cultivator.

OK you lost me :) I dont know how much that equipment weights. Do you think my MF135 can lift a 1400 pound mower with or without additional front weight?

It won't lift 1400 pounds without front weight.

My sprayer weighs under 200 pounds empty because I can slide it with one hand to align the hitch pins. Fertilizer weighs 11 pounds per gallon, spray mix probably 8.5 pounds per gallon, so for spraying the sprayer and spray batch weighs under 750 pounds. That makes the front end light and it rises when I let out the clutch to get up to spraying speed with 200 pounds of front wheel weights.

Mine won't lift 1400 pounds once the tranmission oil gets hot. It will with cold oil and enough front end weight (like the MF-236 loader I used to have on it).
