I can't find a source for front wheel bearings (small, outer bearing) for my MH30 Row Crop. My parts book lists a smaller bearing than used in my front end. I need a Timkin #2586 but have had no luck finding a source. Can't figure why my bearings (inner and outer) are larger than any listed in my parts book (I looked at all models). Any ideas? Any sources for new or used Timkin 2586?

Just a shot in the dark, Jerry, but someone
may have put a MH44 front end on that. If so,
be happy! - it's a lot stronger. I had
a MH30 row-crop narrow front end with a big
Farmhand loader. I snapped one axle off,
I assume partly from fatigue. When getting a
new (used) one at McFadden's boneyard in NY, I noticed that the frontends from the MH44s
are a bolt-on. They use bigger bearings (
and thus also bigger, stronger axles & plus
bigger wheels, etc.). Not sure how to tell
if what you've got is MH44 - maybe check the casting and/or bearing numbers with
a Central Tractor catalog or a MF dealer (Heins
in Valatie NY has been good to me). I
vaguely recollect the MH44 axles were 1/4"
bigger in diameter (maybe?). By the way,
I THINK they were a bolt on - this was a while ago.

Thanks for the hint. In searching one of my bearings something said that bearing was used on the 44 so I think you are right. I think this tractor was worked hard so the old one could have broken. The major thing you added was that the 44 does fit the 30. Thanks, that solves the mystery. Only bad news is that the outside bearings seem unavailable. I finally found three at Timkin for $650 each! Maybe they are selling them to the Pentagon.... Anyway, my old ones were worn but usable. Now I have a few years to find some replacements at a real price ($15 or so). Thanks again!
