I have checked the Archives for proper trans/diff oil for my 150. Looks like it should be M1129A or Perma-Tran3. However the previous owner was using 90 wt gear oil. This 150 has IPTO without multi-power.

Question: Will I have seal leaks with the lighter Hyd. Oil? Posible IPTO clutch problem? I have the tractor split at the engine and haven't seen any signs of leakage around the imput shafts. I also have the brake drums removed with no sign of leakage at axle seals. The PTO o-ring and seal are wet and plan to change these.

Thanks Tom
PS My dog woke me up to do his thing, that's why I'm up at such an early hour.

Hi Tom

The IPTO pump filter screen has very little holes
the thick oil when cold will cause restriction to
oil circulation and the correct pressure will not
be applied on the clutch pack. If you do not use the
IPTO it is not dramatic... but if you do I"m efraid that will cause IPTO clutch slippage and premature worn. The clutch pack or/and its components are very
expensive and may not still available.

From many years of experience using MF"s with IPTO
the IPTO/Multi-power pump filter "must" be cleaned
or changed if needed every 2000~3000 hours of operation even with recommended trans/hyd oil changes schedule. A slipping IPTO/MP clutch pack
will not last long and are very $$$$$.

When IPTO/MP clutch begins to slip it is not perceptible and when we notice anormal operation it is often too late then tractor down time and $$$$$.

Preventive maintenance for these components is benefic. Unfortunately the hydraulic top cover must be removed to change/clean the IPTO/MP pump filter..and on some models with IPTO the tractor must be splitted to change the hyd lift pump filter. If you can do it yourself..it will cost you oil and few gaskets....otherwise it worth the cost to had it done by the dealer.

Long short story...I"d use the recommended oil even if you have to change some seals.... seals are cheap compared to costly component$ repair$/change.

If the seals leak, it's just time for them to be replaced. If the seals are good, there shouldn't be any probelm usiong what's supposed to be in there.

The obvious thing to do is change any seals that you have access to now, or aren't too far away if you're really worried about them. I'd change the few that you know are bad, and whatever ones are already accessable, and fill 'er up.

BTW-I haven't gone to bed yet- I work 2nd shift and get to bed around 4-5 A.M.

Thanks for the reply. Picked up some parts at local MF dealer today, Machine shop called, engine is ready. Wow, it was cheaper than rebuilding my ole 9N. Now I can put something back togeather instead of pulling it apart.
